Therapy

Rachel Christensen therapist

I’m a Licensed Social Worker (LSW/LMSW) who received my BA in English at Northeastern University and earned my Masters of Social Work from New York University. 👩🏻‍🎓

My experience includes individual, couples, families, and group work with children, teens, and adults from diverse backgrounds in multiple settings. Before changing careers to become a therapist, I spent +18 years running social media and ecommerce teams for major brands, publishers, and nonprofits, including BuzzFeed, OREO, and the American Civil Liberties Union.

I have advanced training with families and couples at the Ackerman Institute for the Family, and I have completed the PSI and Policy Center for Maternal Mental Health Professional Maternal Mental Health Certificate Training to help parents and people struggling with infertility and pregnancy loss.

I live in the suburbs of New Jersey with my husband, children, and (poorly behaved) cats.

If you like therapy jargon:
I work psychodynamically and relationally, primarily using attachment-focused, humanistic, and systems-oriented modalities in order to help us make sense of how you see the world. CBT, DBT, ACT, and various behavioral models can be really useful and I’ll pull from them, but I’m not one to use a cookie-cutter approach. I’ll just as quickly quote Sigmund Freud as I will bell hooks, Mary Oliver, Bob Dylan, or a meme I saw on Instagram. And I love transparency, which is why I use lots of psychoeducation to ~demystify~ the process of therapy.

My practice has partnered with Mentaya to help clients use their out-of-network benefits to save money on therapy. Use this tool to see if you qualify for reimbursement for my services.
